What’s easier than to grab a quick snack on the go? Nowadays, with our busy lives, we sometimes need a little something in between meals, a little snack to give you a boost, or just to make that hungry feeling go away, or perhaps you just have a craving. I get plenty of those, I’m a real nut freak. I could eat nuts every day (and I do most of the time, lol)
Kale chips pretty much keep my chip cravings at bay so the next time you’re craving something crispy and salty, try a batch of kale chips as a healthy alternative to store-bought potato chips. Sweet potato chips and beet chips are also a favourite of mine and make a great snack for movie nights. Try these kale chips or sweet potato chips. Beets work well for this too.
Low Carb Bars — There are a plethora of “keto-friendly” on-the-go bars that have hit the store, online and on the shelves. Before you fall for their marketing scheme, investigate the ingredients and calculate the net carbs per bar. Make sure the bar will fit within your calorie and net carb limits for the day. The two most common bars that can be eaten on keto, albeit sparingly, are Quest Bars and NuGo Smarte Carb Bars. Only use bars like these as a last resort if you have no other keto snacks available.
There's nothing better than the addictively delicious Italian treat. Simple chop up tomatoes — try to remove as many seeds and juice as possible so the toppings aren't too wet — throw in some finely minced garlic, basil, salt, and pepper, and a touch of balsamic. Refrigerate while you toast and break apart bite-sized pieces of fiber-rich bread. Then top each golden bread-bite with the toppings. Take a bite and enjoy!
This gourmet treat is an awesome balanced and satisfying snack. The pumpernickel toast lends fiber to help keep your belly full until your next meal. While the salmon boasts high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, B vitamins, potassium, and selenium. Plus, these tasty toasts include a horseradish spread for just the right amount of flavor kick. The best part: They take less than 10 minutes to make!
But it’s far from slim pickings when it comes to vegan snacks that are meat-, dairy-, and egg-free. We’re here to dig you out of your hummus-and-carrots rut with 19 sweet and savory vegan recipes that take less than 10 minutes to put together—because really, when that mid-morning crash, afternoon slump, or post-dinner pang hits, who wants to wait longer than that?
Americans love to snack almost as much as we want to lose weight. But according to research by the USDA, our snacking habits are adding too many calories and too few nutrients to our diets. It doesn't have to be this way, says Susan Bowerman, RD, assistant director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition. "When done right, (snacking) keeps your energy levels up and gives you more opportunities to get in all your nutritional needs."
Try not to over blend it or it will start to blend from the heat of the blender. It’s better if it’s ultra-thick and a little chunky. Once it’s blended, scoop it into a bowl and enjoy. You can make this with any frozen fruit but I’d recommend at least a small chunk of frozen banana for the perfect creaminess. Frozen mango and peaches are some of my favourites. Of course you can make it with chocolate protein powder too.
Since popcorn is all whole grain, its insoluble fiber helps keep your digestive tract in check and prevents constipation. A 3-cup serving contains 3.5 grams of fiber, and a high-fiber diet can help promote intestinal regularity, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Who knew this small snack could make such a huge impact on digestive health?
These are perfect keto snacks alone, but they’re even tastier together, says Boise, Idaho-based dietitian Emily Norbryhn, RD, who often works with keto clients. “The fat, protein, and fiber in this snack will keep you full for hours,” she adds. Mix together two tablespoons crea\my almond butter, one teaspoon chia seeds, one teaspoon sunflower seeds, one teaspoon flax seeds, and two teaspoons pumpkin seeds. Dig in.
That is, until it's snack time—then, if you're on the keto diet, your'e basically SOL (unless, you know, you like having an entire steak for a snack). Think about it: All the best snacks are off limits on the keto diet (damn that fickle 70 percent fat, 25 percent protein, 5 percent carbs ratio). Granola bars, crackers, cookies—all off-limits on a keto diet.
One of the reasons the Atkins Diet is so effective and so pleasurable to do is that you can have a midmorning and a midafternoon snack. That way, you’ll head off fatigue, jitters, inability to concentrate, ravenous cravings for inappropriate foods or overeating at your next meal. But not just any snack will do: They should be made up of fat, protein, and fiber for best appetite control. Vegetables (and later berries and other fruit) are fine , but always eat them with some fat and/or protein to minimize the impact on your blood sugar. These snacks can be assembled in minutes and are perfectly portable. Keep the ingredients on hand at home or in your office so a satisfying and low-carb snack is always available when hunger strikes.
Seriously, this is a thing, guys. “Avocados are a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, as well as fiber,” says Northbryhn. Cut prep time by picking up pre-made guac; some grocery stores also have breakfast hot bars where you can buy bacon slices, too. Just break two bacon slices into bite-sized pieces and dip into ¼ cup guac, she recommends.

Yep, you read that right. According to a 2019 analysis in the journal Antioxidants, popcorn is loaded with polyphenols, compounds found in plants that act as antioxidants and reduce inflammation. Polyphenols are heavily diluted in fruits and vegetables, which are 90 percent water. Yet popcorn is made up of about 4 percent water, so the polyphenols are more highly concentrated, especially in the hulls (the hard shells that get stuck in your teeth). One serving of popcorn can contain up to 300 mg of polyphenols, according to a prior study from the University of Scranton, which would account for 13 percent of the average American’s daily intake. Fruits account for 255 mg of polyphenols per day, and vegetables bring in about 218 mg per day. That said, popcorn doesn’t have many other vitamins and nutrients, so it can’t completely replace fruits and veggies in your diet.
I’ll just accept the weird double agar thing if it can bring us vegan gummies and vegan cheese! Is this cheese recipe still in the testing/tweaking phase or to be shared soon? I am very intrigued now…plus I have a lot of agar agar on hand lol 😀 “Sugar-tastic” that is the perfect word for the packaged kind–no better than candy really. My first two flavor ideas here were orange and apple because I just love both of those juices, but the apple ones were not an attractive color. The orange ones are great, but if it’s fruity and a snack I am probably going to love it. Ha yes, save the black-eyed pea cupcakes for next year–NOT! Happy new years Brandi!!

I just busted out laughing to the point that my mom asked me if I was okay hahahahaha!!! Oh you are the best–the mummy part is what really got me?? Yes autocorrect was being particularly insulting with both of those suggestions, it must be feeling a little post-Christmas cranky. The sparkly coating of sugar is what made me decide they were passable as NYE fare too. All things sparkly are A okay, yes?! 🙂 Um of course I will send you a batch! A rainbow batch that will arrive at 11:58 pm on New Years? Oh and no worries, I have a mushy recap/best of planned for tomorrow too?
When fall comes around and you have more apples than you can reasonably eat out of hand, this recipe is here to help you preserve their flavor (especially if you freeze the applesauce for the off-season). Apple cider vinegar helps to brighten up the cooked fruit, while leaving the skins on the apples contributes flavor and color. Because roses belong to the same family as apples, a few drops of rosewater will help intensify the fruit's flavor. Try our apple compote, too, for an elegant (and quicker-cooking) dessert.

Place your favorite veggies on the grill until charred, they make the perfect dippers for this Greek sauce. Squeeze as much liquid as you can out of the diced cucumbers, chop as small as possible. Add to a combination of Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, parsley and salt and pepper to make a delicious sauce. Using Greek yogurt provides you with a boost or probiotics, protein and a great source of vitamin D.
For a dairy-free take on addictive spinach-artichoke dip, a purée of cooked cauliflower and raw cashews proves impressively effective as a creamy base. We blitz them in the food processor along with the cauliflower cooking liquid, then add flavor to the mixture with vegan mayonnaise (homemade or store-bought), nutritional yeast, mustard, garlic powder, and lemon juice. Add the artichokes and cooked spinach, pulse until combined, and it's ready to be baked until browned and bubbling.
Eating snacks with the right ratio of nutrients, with the right calories, will help keep your body energized and help you lose weight. Protein (plus exercise) fuels the growth of lean muscle mass, which boosts metabolic rate and increases calorie burn. Fiber, meanwhile, helps improve digestion and keeps you from binging on fats and sugars. So while there's no food that will literally "burn fat" while you eat it, smart choices with these ingredients will help your body operate at maximum efficiency. Bowerman suggests snacks under 200 calories, with 10 grams of protein and close to 5 grams of fiber. Here are 22 of our favorite healthy snacks.
