Pork Rinds – Lowrey’s are the BEST.  We love the Hot N’ Spicy flavor, but Original is quite good as well, depending on your taste.  Microwaveable pork rinds might sound a bit strange at first, but they’re shockingly tasty, and probably the best way to get that crunchy, salty snack that can be hard to attain on a low-carb diet without potato chips and crackers.  Pro tip: you can make some killer pork rind nachos, and you can even crumple them up and use them as faux-breadcrumbs to fry chicken in.
These are perfect keto snacks alone, but they’re even tastier together, says Boise, Idaho-based dietitian Emily Norbryhn, RD, who often works with keto clients. “The fat, protein, and fiber in this snack will keep you full for hours,” she adds. Mix together two tablespoons crea\my almond butter, one teaspoon chia seeds, one teaspoon sunflower seeds, one teaspoon flax seeds, and two teaspoons pumpkin seeds. Dig in.

Vegan adults know what restrictions they're signing up for, but it can seem a little more difficult for parents of vegan children to find meals and snacks that will satisfy. Good news: it's probably not as difficult as you think! Below are some favorite snacks that kids, vegan or not, will love. Some take longer to prepare–like soft pretzels and bread–while some are whipped together in just minutes.

Don’t forget the easiest, healthiest snack of all: raw fruits and vegetables. Keep a fridge full of fresh produce and you’ll automatically be prompted to snack well. A few of my favourites are frozen grapes, cucumbers, carrots, snap peas, apples, bananas and in the summer fresh berries. You can always pair with them nuts and seeds to make a more substantial snack.
Keto-Friendly Dark Chocolate — If not sweetened with stevia or another low carb sweetener, make sure it’s at least 80% cocoa content or higher, as the carbs can add up quickly. Click this link if you’d like to try some premade keto-friendly chocolate for yourself. You can also make your own by mixing melted coconut oil with cocoa powder and your favorite low carb sweetener(s).

One cup sliced cucumbers and 10 large olives makes for a great keto-friendly snack, with added benefits: “This is a great snack to help people in ketosis supplement their sodium levels." says Desiree Nielsen, RD, author of Un-Junk Your Diet. When you're in ketosis, your body needs more sodium, and “without adequate sodium, people are at risk for dehydration, constipation, and more dangerous electrolyte imbalances," she adds.

Well you are wayyy faster than me (I’ve read some of your running posts)! Slow and steady for me. :-) But I seriously don’t think I could do it without your blog. I really am feeling better, more energy and focus, so much so that my boyfriend has been eating mostly vegan with me during the week! I’m so glad that I found your blog…and I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times before, but you really have helped me become a healthier person!! I don’t know if I’m glowing yet, but I’ll get there. :-)
One of the reasons the Atkins Diet is so effective and so pleasurable to do is that you can have a midmorning and a midafternoon snack. That way, you’ll head off fatigue, jitters, inability to concentrate, ravenous cravings for inappropriate foods or overeating at your next meal. But not just any snack will do: They should be made up of fat, protein, and fiber for best appetite control. Vegetables (and later berries and other fruit) are fine , but always eat them with some fat and/or protein to minimize the impact on your blood sugar. These snacks can be assembled in minutes and are perfectly portable. Keep the ingredients on hand at home or in your office so a satisfying and low-carb snack is always available when hunger strikes.
When tomatoes are out of season, you can still make great bruschetta by breaking out a can. Slowly roasting canned whole tomatoes concentrates their flavors, and mixing them with basil and red wine vinegar as a topping for toast produces a delicious year-round snack. We like to rub the toasts with garlic before spooning on the tomatoes to get an extra layer of flavor.
Raw energy bites are one of the easiest and tastiest snacks to keep on hand during a busy week. Try making a batch on the weekend to store in the fridge so you can grab a few when hunger strikes. They’re also a great way to get essential omega-3 fats into your nutrition to your diet as many are made with ingredients like hemp seeds, ground flax, almonds or cashews.
Snacks can absolutely fit in your diet if you're trying to lose weight. Having ideas for healthy snacks to pack for work snacks, grab and go snacks, store-bought snacks and snacks you can make yourself will help vary the nutrients you get and keep you from going hangry between meals. Remember, think nutrient-dense (fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals) and your snacks will help you get the nutrition your body needs and keep you full.

When fall comes around and you have more apples than you can reasonably eat out of hand, this recipe is here to help you preserve their flavor (especially if you freeze the applesauce for the off-season). Apple cider vinegar helps to brighten up the cooked fruit, while leaving the skins on the apples contributes flavor and color. Because roses belong to the same family as apples, a few drops of rosewater will help intensify the fruit's flavor. Try our apple compote, too, for an elegant (and quicker-cooking) dessert.
Although there are a ton of store-bought healthy snacks out there, nothing beats a quick and fresh D.I.Y. snack from your own kitchen. Since most of us don't have time to stress over what's healthy and what won't wind up tasting like a child's science experiment, having a handful of go-to snacks can be life-changing. Your confidence in your grocery shopping can increase, your nutrition intake can get a boost, and you can waistline shrink when you avoid overeating by munching on low-calories snacks in between meals. Pair your latest drink from Zero Belly Smoothies with these healthy snack ideas that are approachable, affordable, and tasty!
I’m not a vegan, so it wasn’t that aspect that drew me in–it was the fact that all of these are so low in sugar, and packed full of super healthy ingredients! It’s surprisingly hard to find snacks, treats, and energy bars in the store that don’t have upwards of 10 grams of sugar (in that case, you might as well just be eating a candy bar!). Since I’ve started looking at food labels more, and since my Grandpa’s diabetes has gotten harder for him to handle, I’ve been trying to be more careful about my sugar intake. These recipes sound delicious and easy to make, and I won’t feel guilty about indulging in a little extra when I make them!

High-Fat Cheeses — Although hard cheeses make for a great keto snack, they aren’t the best cheese for increasing your fat intake while minimizing protein. The highest fat cheeses that can serve as great high-fat, low-protein snacks are mascarpone cheese and cream cheese. Feel free to combine them with other snacks from this article, such as pork rinds, pepperoni, and nuts, for a wonderfully tasty keto snack.

Americans love to snack almost as much as we want to lose weight. But according to research by the USDA, our snacking habits are adding too many calories and too few nutrients to our diets. It doesn't have to be this way, says Susan Bowerman, RD, assistant director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition. "When done right, (snacking) keeps your energy levels up and gives you more opportunities to get in all your nutritional needs."
Sweet, creamy, and filling, this trio feels completely indulgent. The combination of fiber, healthy fats, and protein are sure to get you over any 3pm slump. Plus, the vitamin C in raspberries increases your body's fat-burning ability, according to research in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Combine a single-serving container of Greek yogurt, a cup of raspberries, and a half-tablespoon of honey.
A heaping bowl of comfort food is a healthy way to start your day, especially if the idea of quick sugar fixes like cereal just isn’t your thing. To make things speedier, make the oatmeal the night before or on the weekend in a big batch. Then portion out enough for your day. When you’re ready to eat, you need only focus on poaching your egg, which makes this incredibly hearty and healthy breakfast easy enough for a weekday.
To get them out of the molds I just run a knife along the edges and then tap the container upside down a few times on a table until it slides out. If it’s breaking, leaving it for another couple of hours in the fridge to make sure it’s really set will help though. You could also try slicing them in the molds and then popping them out one by one. Good luck!
My cousin the fitness trainer is a vegan and he orders my vegan baked goods all the time. I really like the recipe options you offered because I think many of the store-bought snacks are unhealthy. I prefer to make my own vegan crackers, chocolates, cookies, etc. I even make them sugar-free! That said, I’ll keep this site in mind whenever I need inspiration and ideas for my cousin’s vegan meals. Thanks!

The healthiest type of popcorn is air-popped, which only has 30 calories per cup. Meanwhile, the Center for Science in the Public Interest found that the medium and large popcorn sizes at Regal theaters each had 1,200 calories and 60 grams of saturated fat. A large popcorn at AMC wasn’t much better: 1,030 calories and 57 grams of saturated fat. At home, you can use a hot air popper, like this Cuisinart Hot Air Popcorn Maker or Colonel Popper Microwave Popcorn Popper Bowl to make your own.
Even though fiber is listed on food labels under total carbohydrates, it doesn’t have the same effect on blood sugar as refined carbs like white bread. High-fiber foods don’t contain as much digestible carbohydrate, so it slows the rate of digestion and causes a more gradual and lower rise in blood sugar, according to 2015 research in the journal Circulation.

Thanks for the links Celeste. One article says ALA can have anti-cancer properties (with regard to breast tissue). Another says ALA may reduce risk of heart disease while it could be a risk factor for prostate cancer. Confusing! The studies are 6-9 years old, so I’d be interested in seeing if more recent research has been done on this topic. It’s definitely worth looking into. Thanks for passing them along!
For a more substantial alternative to cookies, try these no-bake, oat-based bites, where almonds and almond butter pack in healthy fats to make them highly satisfying. Note that the dark chocolate drizzle on top adds a bit of time to the recipe, but as with most things chocolate, it’s totally worth it. Swap in maple syrup for the honey if you follow a strict vegan diet.

These open-faced egg toast beauties are much more than your average egg salad sandwich—the flavors, textures, and even look are elegant and original. Folded into the egg salad mixture is a mustardy vinaigrette, briny capers, fresh parsley, and just-bitter-enough radicchio leaves. Heaped on top of toasted sourdough, the result is both fresh and hearty, a win-win! This mixture would also be delicious piled on a whole grain like brown rice or quinoa, or even served as a salad for a lighter meal.
Freekeh is a cereal made from roasted green wheat. That's the one and only ingredient in this snack's original blend, making it an ideal packaged snack. With zero sodium, four grams of fiber, six grams of protein, and only 130 calories per quarter-cup serving, you can help yourself to an extra-large serving. Try rosemary sage or tamari when you want to mix things up.

Keto Smoothies and Shakes — Some of our favorite keto smoothies are the Peanut Butter Caramel Milkshake, Blueberry Banana Bread Smoothie, McKeto Strawberry Milkshake, Cucumber Spinach Smoothie, Blackberry Chocolate Shake, and Keto Tropical Smoothie. Feel free to add your favorite low-carb protein powder to your shake or smoothie to help you meet your protein needs and build muscle.
Not by much, but it’s true! According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 1 ounce (28 grams) of popcorn contains 0.9 mg of iron, while 1 cup of raw spinach (30 grams) has 0.8 mg. These numbers seem small, but adult men only need 8 mg of iron in their diet each day. Adult women, on the other hand, need 18 mg per day (because of the blood they lose during menstruation). Almost 10 percent of women are iron deficient, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So get your fill of iron however you can. Now that you know all about the health benefits of popcorn, check out these other white foods that are healthier than you thought.

My all-time favourite cracker and quite possibly one of the top 3 recipes so far in 2012.  Endurance Crackers are extremely light and crispy while providing long-lasting energy. They are also vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, sugar-free, and oil-free to boot. Feel free to change up the seasonings and spices as you wish (see the comments in the original post for some ideas) and serve with protein-packed hummus for a snack that will fuel you for the long haul. Man, I wish I had some right now!
Fruit smoothies are one of the most delicious and convenient snacks there is and you’ll never get bored because they’re always different! If you just need a small snack, try blending almond milk, frozen berries and a banana. If you’re hungry or need a good solid snack before or after a workout, try almond milk, a banana, frozen berries, protein powder, and healthy fat such as chia, peanut butter or flax seeds.
"Diet-friendly snacking doesn't necessarily have to be low-fat," says McLachlan. What's more important: Portion size. A homemade trail mix of walnuts, mini chocolate chips, and raisins is a snack that's satisfying (thanks to the sweetness and fat) and healthy for a dieter if portion sizes are kept in check. "Mix a palm full of walnuts with a pinch of chocolate chips and a pinch of raisins — it's not always realistic to measure," says McLachlan.
